You may or may not be aware….
But today is maestro Thomas Dolby’s magnificent Fiftieth Birthday.
For those of you who aren’t aware, he’s one of the most pioneering popular music artists of this & the last century, penning unusual & inspiring classics whilst using the most innovative musical technology available. His work is thoughtful, incisive & educational…not to mention that his live shows are quite extraordinarily brilliant, intelligent, homorous & compellingly unmissable.
And apart from working on writing & recording a new album, he’s also the long-term musical director of the globally-renowned TED (Technology-Entertainment-Design) Annual Conference, which brings together the most inspiring of modern minds & the finest of everything that’s ‘Cutting edge’ (see the link to Theo Jansen’s incredible animatronic sculptures, if you’re sceptical).
So: for the man whose father was an eminent Professor of Archaeology; whose great-great Aunts Millicent Garrett Fawcett & Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (sisters of his mother’s mother’s father) were respectively the founder of Newnham College, Cambridge not to mention an early suffragist & feminist; & the UK’s first female Doctor (plus in 1908, Aldeborough’s first Lady Mayor): & who himself has been a fine pioneer of the modern Music Industry: penning such classics as ‘Windpower’, ‘She Blinded Me With Science’ & ‘Hyperactive’ to mention only a mere smattering of hits; not to mention his latest project – renovating a decommissioned lifeboat on the Norfolk coast, & transforming it into a state-of-the-art, timeless classic recording studio – the ultimate in recycling….
I’d like to exclaim – “what a wonderful & wholly inspiring chap!”.
Thus I invite everyone to join me in wishing the magnificent Thomas Dolby: a very, Very Happy Fiftieth Birthday – you’ve entertained us & inspired us, for so many years: we sincerely thank you.
Hey, matie – this “old-broiler-of-a-spring-chicken” is led to believe, that 50 is the new 40! Therefore “we-of-a-certain-age” (could it be the ‘Golden Age of Wireless’….?! Hee hee!!) salute your multifarious achievements: & sincerely wish you Grandiose Felicitations – here’s hoping you enjoy much jelly, ice cream (Lovespoon of course!) & trifle on your (ahem) Big Day.
And (of course) Keep Up the Good Work….!! Besides; age is a relatively timeless thing, innit….. 😉
Looking forward to hailing your next 50, Thomas: may they bring you health, happines & wealth.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY…!!!! from all the LittleFfarm Dairy Menagerie. xxx
