Anniversary Blog!

Goodness gracious me,

I occasionally look back over our Blog archive to reminisce over what we were up to at various times over the past year….& I’ve found that today – 1st August – marks my very first year of blogging, as I wrote my first post exactly one year ago.  So Happy Birthday….or is it, Happy Anniversary, Blog?  Or maybe it should be, Happy Blogday?!

Anyway what was particularly depressing to read, was that this time last year the weather was blissfuly fine & sunny; our hay crop was not only cut but about to be baled & I was making my preparations for our annual Hay Tea, which is a ‘thank you’ celebration for all the workforce who help us bring in this precious Winter fodder.  Unfortunately this year the only clear opportunity to cut hay so far, ironically came during the week of the Royal Welsh Show; when of course we were ‘otherwise engaged’ – but there again so was our helpful friend & neighbour, Lloyd, who was preoccupied with his second-cut silage.  What is particularly frustrating, is that there have since been occasional ‘gaps’ in the weather – & we seem to be going through one at the moment – where we could have taken the chance to cut; however, the weather forecast did not recommend such actions, & the opportunity has thus passed us by.  So not good news……

Another fascinating thing about last years’ post was that I recorded I was freeze-churning ice cream for the Hay Tea.  Indeed, it was the enthusiatic reception that this particular dish received at the event, as well as the encouragement of friend & ‘goat guru’ Dreda, which caused me to become more engaged in the activity; & has led to our metamorphosis to the fascinating & wonderful world of Gelato – luxury ice cream – although I will still continue to make cheese over the Winter months (you can’t beat a good piece of cheese when the weather’s cold, wet & windy outside, after all…..hmmm, maybe I should be making it now after all….?!).

And the news, for 1st August, 2008?  Well; today was the day Tony was supposed to be starting his new job; however owing to a ‘technical hitch’ I suspect he’ll be here for a few more days at least, yet – which is just as well, there’s work to be done…!

So there we go; the wheel of the year has turned full circle; & here we are again, only this time much further down a path we didn’t even know we’d be treading, last August.  Fascinating to muse over what 1st August 2009 will bring…?!

  1. Congratulations. The first year is a real milestone, most people give up aftera couple of months.

The great thing about blogging is that you can look back so easily and see how far that you’ve travelled.

Good luck for the next year.
