“Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream…. a flash of lightning in a summer cloud; a flickering lamp, a phantom, & a dream.”*
Today is the May full moon or Visakha Pùja, when Buddhists the world over contemplate the birth, enlightenment & passing of the Buddha. Time is spent on development of the mind (meditation) & words, deeds & thoughts are cultivated to be ever more inspired by compassion, generosity & virtue.
Meditation teaches us awareness: to live in the moment, savouring every breath. It brings a new freshness, new vitality, new comprehension of life……. For the past moment is already history, we cannot change it; & we do not know what pleasures or pains the next moment may bring. This moment, this fleeting moment, is all we have.
So, therefore, live mindfully, live in the present: my gift to you this Visakha Pùja. Anumodana!
