Happy New Year!

Here’s wishing everyone everywhere,

Peace, Prosperity, Health & Happiness for a wonderful 2008.

With our best wishes,

Jo, Tony & the Laethdy Ffarm Fach menagerie.

We enjoyed an indulgently leisurely day today; unusual for us, but much-needed.  Whilst as ever I was up early to do the initial farm bits & pieces, I came back in to have a long, foamy-&-steam soak with a good book in the bath whilst Tony took over on the yard for me.  After that Tony had a bath & I enjoyed my first lie-in for absolutely ages, completely captivated in a relaxing slumber which I realised I really did in fact need.

I did some writing & pottered about on the yard during the afternoon whilst Tony continued his snooze; as I wanted to spend some time with our new caprine charges, sitting in their pen & just getting them comfortable with the idea we would be looking after them.  Once they were suitably relaxed & confident we introduced them to Merson, the stud male; & whilst there was an initial scuffle with Merson dizzyingly pursuing everyone round & round the pen they soon settled down, Merson more interested in munching the fresh straw I’d just put on the pen floor than in anything else.

Together Tony & I carried out a leisurely milking, unsure how the goats would take to the fact that the parlour had been relocated; thankfully they weren’t at all phased as the ‘essentials’ were still familiar, with the two milking stands at either side of the room & our galvanised twin bucket milking machine, in the middle.  So things were nice & relaxed with the goats picking up on our good humour & behaving remarkably well.

Whilst Tony cleaned down the machine & parlour I made sure everyone was safely bedded down for the evening; then returned to the house to cook Tony an extremely late ‘brunch’ of sausage, bacon & eggs; washed down with a bottle of “Buck’s Fizz” & followed by a peaceful evening in front of the inviting warmth of the crackling woodburner – the perfect end to the first perfect day of what we hope will be the perfect year.
