Now here is something truly ridiculous.
The European Union (in their wisdom) have banned the export of all dairy products made in the UK, until such time as we are once more deemed unpolluted from the ravages of FMD. Apart from the fact that the disease cannot be transferred through the medium of dairy produce, if the ban is lifted in the minimum possible time & export trade resumes in a couple of months, then any mature cheese exported will have actually been produced during the outbreak period. And that (for vintage cheddar, for example) could mean exporting this ‘dangerous’ product for another 24 months. Farcical.
